Alberton cancer walk a success

Cancer walk creates awareness.

Between July 15 and 19, a group of walkers from the ages of 32 to 72 walked 100km in five days from Centurion to Alberton to create awareness and raise funds for cancer.

Members of Strides 4 Hope started walking from Midstream Estate in Centurion on July 15, making their way through Kyalami, Midrand, Randburg, Roodepoort and ending in Alberton on July 19.

Along the way, participants shared personal and heartbreaking stories about their loved ones who have been affected by cancer. The organisation hopes the 100km walk will lead to a giant leap in the fight against cancer.

Elize Damon, a member of Strides 4 Hope, spoke on the significance of support for those living with the dreaded disease.

“Communities must come together to offer support to the people affected by cancer. Institutions like Cansa keep working and researching to educate and treat patients,” Elize said.

The team was grateful to the community members who joined them for the last 20 km in Alberton. Strides 4 Hope thanked the sponsors, Alberton community and LewenSentrum Church for committing to this project.

“Strides 4 Hope thanks all those who made the walk possible and to those who participated. We hope to do this walk every year,” Elize said.
