Gauteng champ defeats counterpart, forges ahead

In just 23 seconds into the first round, Donjuan van Heerden unleashed his punching power by knocking out his opponent by knockout.

In just under a minute, provincial middleweight champ Donjuan van Heerden displayed impressive power and precision when he knocked out Fhulufhelo Ramalliba.

Van Heerden ‘The Iron Dragon’ defeated Ramalliba in a non-title bout at the Kibler Park Recreation Centre on June 22.

The boxing titleholder, named the Boxing SA 2023 prospect of the year, is adamant about being dubbed South African champion and more.

As far as the fight, he said he knew he was going to reign supreme, especially considering the hard work he put in preparation.

“I always prepare myself to the best of my ability when I know a fight is coming up. My next fight will be a challenge for the South African middleweight title against John Bopape. I feel this is what needs to happen next.

South Africa doesn’t have a lot to offer me anymore. I need to get fights overseas,” he explained.

Van Heerden said he is gunning for top rankings and then having more international fights.

“That way I will be number one in the country and that will happen before this year ends. I have bagged nine wins and six of those fights I secured via knockouts,” he said.

His manager, Colleen McAusland, earlier said Donjuan can face any opponent and that he adapts to any fighting style.

“His ring IQ is phenomenal; he can box and he can fight”.
