MMA fighters flex their muscles at tournament

It was another great outing for Valhalla MMA as they entered a small but strong team into the Submission Kings Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament, hosted at the Walter Sisulu Hall in Randburg.

The tournament was spread over two days, with Saturday seeing the adult divisions play out and then the youth divisions on Sunday.

“Our small team managed to place our academy seventh overall with only six athletes entered,” said coach Shane Carr.

“We are extremely proud of our athletes and academy, which has been creating champions for over twelve years now. Our athletes give their all in training and when they compete. They are the driving force behind our success.”

Podiums won during the weekend:

• One bronze – Coenie Lamprecht

• One bronze – Miriam Moosa

• One silver – Chris Lamprecht

• Two gold – Zyd Moosa

• One gold – Josef Moosa

• One gold – Wayden Wolmarans

“The year ahead has a full calendar of events to come, such as the Youth MMA Championships on July 6, and then the IMMAF Youth World Championships in Abu-Dhabi come August where our MMA Youth Athletes will be competing on the world stage.” Carr said.
