Alberton High girl’s badminton team makes massive comeback

The Alberton High School badminton girls’ team recently made their school proud by winning at the Badminton National Championships in Durban.

Alberton High School girls’ badminton team came home with a gold medal for the first time in two years after taking part in the South African Schools Badminton Championships.

The Alberton High School girls’ team recently won against Hoërskool Diamantveld from Kimberly in the South African Schools Badminton Championships held in Durban.

Jade Henning, Kirsty Correia, Chanika Longueira, Kiara Jaskolka, and Melinda Jaskolka gave outstanding performances and showed massive energy throughout the tournament.

Their dedication scored them a gold medal adding another feather to their cap as the team won a silver medal in the same tournament last year.

“We were undefeated throughout the tournament. Many of us are provincial players, so we have been preparing for this tournament for quite some time,” explained Melinda Jaskolka.

“I’m happy. I have been working for three years to get here. The girls promised me that this year would be their year and they did it,” said Natasha le Grange, coach for Alberton High School girls’ badminton team.

“It was such a nerve-wracking game but when you have a supportive team, you got it,” said Henning.
