Wesley Groenewald secures victory at Tower Novices Tournament
Wesley Groenewald of Ridge Park Sports Club’s triumph at the Tower Novices Tournament shows talent and perseverance, bringing glory to the club.
Wesley Groenewald, a member of Ridge Park Sports Club (RPSC), recently achieved a remarkable feat by clinching victory at the Tower Novices Tournament.
This annual event, open to bowlers from Gauteng, saw 179 entries in the men’s section this year, all competing in the singles format.
The tournament ran from January 20 to March 9.
According to Amanda Shaw from the RPSC, the club was well-represented at the event, with two players making it to the semi-finals. While Martinus Kruger fell short in his semi-final match, Groenewald showcased exceptional skill and determination to progress to the final round.
“In a thrilling showdown against L Michler from Delville Bowling Club, Wesley emerged victorious, securing not only a personal triumph but also bringing glory to his club.
“This victory marks a significant milestone for Ridge Park Sports Club because it represents the first outside trophy won by an RPSC player since the club’s reopening in 2022,” said Shaw.
Shaw said the Tower Novices Tournament not only showcased the individual talents of the players but also emphasised the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship that thrives in the bowling community.
“With a strong turnout and outstanding performances, the future of bowling in Gauteng appears promising, reflecting a vibrant and growing interest in the sport.
