Kibler Park’s weightlifting to represent SA in Thailand

Kibler Park’s weightlifting champ Liam Chandler will have an opportunity to compete on the world stage and needs your help to make his trip a success.

Weightlifting champ Liam Chandler will join Team South Africa who will be hoisting the country’s flag in Thailand at the end of March.

The Hoërskool Dinamika alumnus has qualified to join the country’s squad and will be going to the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup.

This will see him going against the best athletes in the world in an attempt to break the highest records in different categories.

Liam, who is part of Movement Crew, recently competed in the South African Weightlifting Championships where he broke SA records.

In the previous year, he made great strides and broke junior and senior records and won the senior division.

“This is a huge step up for him as a qualifier because he has been selected to go with the senior team, even though he is still a junior. This is quite a big step up from the competition he did last year during the Commonwealth champs. He is getting better and better as an athlete,” explained his father, Gavin Chandler.

In the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships held in 2023 in India, while competing in the 109kg junior category, Liam maintained an impressive 280kg total.

They are planning to host fundraising events in support of his upcoming contest and ask the community members for their support. Details will be published later.
