WATCH: Fourth win in the bag for local pro boxer

Kibler Park’s Bernice Ferreira went head-to-head with Cecilia Pitisani during her fourth professional bout where she claimed her win, making her town and manager Colleen McAusland proud.

Pro boxer Bernice Ferreira exchanged blows with her Zimbabwean counterpart, Cecilia Pitisani, on September 29 at Maropa Casino in Limpopo in a non-title bout scheduled for six rounds.

Fighting in the junior lightweight division, their fight ended in one minute and 26 seconds into the first round by a technical knockout (TKO), favouring Ferreira.

She said she was prepared for this fight after going through training for close to two months.

“As far as preparation goes, we did everything; no stone was left unturned. We did long-distance running, sprints, conditioning, lots of sparring, bag work, and other forms of training. I was hungry to get back into the ring because my last fight was four months ago and they postponed a few tournaments before this event,” Ferreira said.

Ferreira said she prepared for a full six-round fight.

“I expected a longer, tougher fight from her. It was over so quickly, although I am not complaining about my first stoppage. I was just getting started. I have to be honest; I don’t think she was ready for the flames that I brought or she underestimated me,” she said.

She thanked her team, family, and friends for always standing beside her.

“I would like to send a big thank you to God, first, and to my coaches, manager and the excellent team behind me, as well as Mama Rocks Promotions for the opportunity.

“A huge thank you to my sponsors MobiFit, Navigator Trading, Hair@meyersdal, Aunty Vanessa, Just Style Me Hair Studio and everyone else who showed support,” said Ferreira.

She expects to be back in the ring next month.
