Spectrum of players battle it out at Alberton Rugby Club

The Mastercard Golden Lions Women’s team took on the DHL Western Province on July 22 at the Alberton Rugby Club, where they also left their mark.

Players went head-to-head during a fiercely contested Mastercard Pirates Grand Challenge as well as women’s rugby semi-final, hosted at Alberton Rugby Club.

The Alberton’s Elande played in their second last match in the Castle Lager Pirates Grand Challenge when they met the University of Johannesburg (UJ) on the day. UJ won 25-13

The Mastercard Golden Lions women’s team beat Western Province 15-10.

Alberton’s second team lost 26-24, and the U21s lost 39-5. Alberton’s third team won 20-3, while the U19s lost 75-7.

After the big game, the management of both clubs gathered at the Alberton Rugby Club boardroom for the renaming of the premises.

Formerly known as the Eland Room, the boardroom was then named after the Alberton Rugby Club president Manie Reyneke, to be called Manie Reyneke Room.
