Karateka Brogan of Trinityhouse Glenvista performed well in Zimbabwe

Brogan Taylor won a gold medal and came first in the UFAK Region South Continental Championships in Zimbabwe.

Young karateka and Trinityhouse Glenvista learner Brogan Taylor represented SA well after she emerged as number one in the South Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK) Region South Continental Championships held from June 8 to 12 in Zimbabwe.

According to her mother, Leigh-Ann, various countries competed in the international tournament.

“Brogan made us proud by winning a gold medal and taking first place. She is now ranked first in southern Africa out of all southern African countries. She qualifies for UFAK, which is the entire African continent/All-African Games, and if she wins there, she will qualify for the World All Styles Karate Championships,” said Leigh-Ann.

She said this was a phenomenal achievement for Brogan, having only started her professional karate career last year.

“Brogan has won five titles in a row since March. She has won four SA national titles back-to-back and one African title. Hopefully, her achievements this year will stand her a chance of sportswomen of the year at the National South African All Styles Karate Awards,” said Leigh-Ann.

“Words can not express how proud we are of her.”
