City of Ekurhuleni celebrates Banyana Banyana’s homecoming

Banyana Banyana was happy to be welcomed back by the City's officials after winning the title of WAFCON 2022 held at Morocco on July 26.

City of Ekurhuleni was thrilled to join Banyana Banyana in its joy of returning home at OR Tambo International Airport after winning the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco on July 23.

A throng of South Africans also gathered at the airport to celebrate the return of the heroes.

According to the Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Tania Campbell, it was an extra special day for all South African citizens and it came at a time when the national morale has been low due to the rising cost of living, the spate of tavern killings and the energy supply issues with Eskom.

“Banyana Banyana has given us a reason to be energised and inspired again,” Campbell said.

“They have made the country proud, and their win goes a long way towards nation-building. We know you will do exceptionally well in the upcoming World Cup,” Campbell concluded.
