Gauteng boxing hopes to deliver a knockout

The association will gather on January 22 for their first conference where they will discuss the way forward.

The Gauteng Boxing Promoters Association members have taken a stance to promote the sport in the province.
The association will gather on January 22 for their first conference where they will discuss the way forward.

The conference will take place under the leadership of the elected Gauteng chairperson, Tshele Kometsi, in order to build a platform for boxing to unite in the province forming a relationship between independent boxing business owners.

“We are all leaders in our own boxing space and I knew it would not be easy to get strong leaders (promotors) to always agree and work together, but I also knew it was possible.

“Because of a core group of committed people who were prepared to persevere and work through personal differences, we can now see the rewards of that effort.

“Conversation provincially is gaining great momentum, and we are just starting to see a national interest from promotors in the other who shares the same sentiment and who are reaching out,” said Kometsi.

The conference will be held over two days and the association will engage the leadership of Boxing South Africa (BSA), business professionals and third-party consultants to impact knowledge and skills that will equip promotors in the business of boxing and also cast a clear way forward into the future, thus ensuring the growth of professional boxing in the province.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Ulwazi Lungamandla” – Knowledge is Power.

Joining the conference will be BSA board chairperson Luthando Jack and interim CEO Cindy Nkomo.

“We as licensed Gauteng Promotors who are members of the association have taken responsibility for getting ourselves organised and for treating the sport professional boxing as a real business, we are responsible for helping boxers to put bread on the table,” said Kometsi.
