National Women’s league kick-off

All matches will take place at the Nice Centre in Soweto this weekend with all 12 teams scheduled to play. The fixtures will start at 10am and the entrance is free.

The National Women’s league will have a kick-off on August 24 where 12 teams will vow for becoming the first women’s team in soccer to have the bragging rights.

Though the league will commence on Saturday, the teams do not know what their prize yet will be at the end of their journey. The league also doesn’t have a title sponsor or will not have TV coverage.

But the South African Football Association (SAFA) is proud to officially announce the fixtures of the inaugural SAFA Women’s National League. As promised by the Association, the league kicks off in the month of celebrating women’s month with some mouth-watering fixtures to kick off the season.

All matches will take place at the Nice Centre in Soweto this weekend with all 12 teams scheduled to play. The fixtures will start at 10am and the entrance is free.

The league will see clubs such as Bloemfontein Celtic, Mamelodi Sundowns, University of Johannesburg and the USSA in action.

SAFA’s Acting General Manager for Football Business, Mr. Mzwandile Maforvane urged fans to come out in their numbers in support what promises to be a dawn of a new and exciting journey for women’s football.

“The Association has been hard at work in preparation for this weekend’s matches and ensuring that the league kicks off. We urge fans in and around Soweto to come out in their numbers in support of the women’s game. For the league to be a success, we need all stakeholders, which include media and fans to show their support and assist in taking the league forward” said Maforvane.
