Allen takes on experienced Thysse

Five action-packed fights at Emperors Palace hosted by AfricanRing.

The fight of the evening will most probably be between World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan Africa junior-middleweight title-holder Boyd Allen and the more experienced Brandon Thysse on Friday evening.

Power at the Palace will take place on May 10 at Emperors Palace hosted by AfricanRing in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotions.

The pundits will get together and two of the evening’s bouts will most probably be on their list to vote for. Allen will defend his title against Thysse and what might count in his favour is that his father, André, was one of the country’s top boxers. He held the South African super middleweight title and Commonwealth super middleweight title, and was a challenger to many world titles in his days as a professional boxer.

In his corner will be the well-known trainer Damien Durandt, who also learnt his trade from his father, Nick Durandt, who during his training career boasted many world title-holders.

Thus Allen will have the fight of his life coming up against a well-prepared corner like of Thysse’s.

Rowan Campbell will defend his International Boxing Organisation (IBO) middleweight Africa title against Yanga Phetani from the Western Cape, which will also present a good fight on the evening.

The other bouts are: Thulani Mdluli vs Aidan Quin junior-middleweight over four rounds; Etienne van Niekerk vs Tristan Truter junior-middleweight over four rounds; and Wynand Mulder vs Roarke Knapp junior-middleweight over four rounds.

Doors open at 7pm on May 10.
