Johannesburg hockey club holds open day at Waterstone College

Aspiring hockey players were taught the basics of hockey at the JHB South Hockey launch.

JOHANNESBURG South Hockey Club hosted an impressive open day launch at Waterstone College’s astroturf, Kibler Park, on February 8.

The day was hosted by Michael Richards, the club’s president, and Allistar Fredericks, the current national selector and former national player. The day started with the perfect hockey weather. Participants joined from all over Johannesburg South.

The launch kicked off with junior players being taught the basics of hockey. Next were the older children.

They were put through their paces with more complex hockey drills which will help them in match situations. The goalkeepers were also provided with specialised skills training. The day ended with seniors having a full training game.

Michael Richards said: “The support received from the community was overwhelming and JHB South Hockey Club would like to thank all who made this day possible.”
