The second edition of the Vaal River City Marathon will take place on September 2.
Vaal River City Marathon is the first Comrades and Two Oceans Marathon qualifiers in the Gauteng Province for the 2018/19 road running calendar.
The event comprises of a 42.2km, 21.1km and 10km race, and a 5km fun run.
With a flat route profile, the Vaal River City Marathon aims to boost the fastest time for a standard marathon in South Africa.
Having attracted over 2 200 entrants in its inaugural year in 2017, the Vaal River City Marathon is going from strength to strength. This is evident in the partnerships that have been developed between the event, The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Emfuleni Local Municipality, Rand Water and Sedgars Sport.
Vaal River City Marathon is also co-hosted by the Lekoa Athletics Club which is based in Sharpeville Township in the Vanderbijlpark area. This partnership with a local athletics club aims to develop and capacitate local clubs to be able to host, co-ordinate and manage large-scale road running events.
