Mixed doubles canoe champs

Morgan and Ryan Ziervogel were the winners of the Canoe Concepts mixed doubles championship race.

FLORIDA Lake Canoe Club hosted the Gauteng canoe union mixed doubles championship on the Klip River between Daleside and Meyerton on August 27.

The mixed doubles category, which will be one of the racing categories at the World marathon championship next month in Pietermaritzburg, is a men’s and women’s combination in a K2 double kayak.

Canoe Concepts, a supplier of equipment for canoeing/kayaking, based in Albertskroon near Emmarentia Dam, is the annual sponsor of the Gauteng’s mixed doubles championship race where the top Gauteng mixed doubles partnerships are recognised.

Morgan Ziervogel from the Johannesburg canoe club based at Wemmer Pan in the South has become known as the Klip Queen having been the mixed championship woman winner for the past two years, as well as the Gauteng top woman – partnered with her younger brother Ryan. The two did not disappoint as they won the 2017 mixed doubles championship category, finishing the 30km race in a time of two hours and two minutes, as the first u-23 finishers.
