Mounted Games to be hosted by SA

2017 World Team Mounted Games championship will take place in SA.

THE South African Mounted Games Association will be hosting the 2017 World Team Mounted Games championship at the Royal Agricultural Showgrounds from July 12 to 15.

This is SA’s inaugural world championship. Annual championships are held worldwide and include individual and team competitions in the various age groups. Mostly adults will be competing in this competition.

Riders and ponies need to be fit, agile and brave as the 31 games played require speed, agility and accuracy.

Teams of five riders, from ten countries including South Africa, will compete on “borrowed” ponies and vie for the title of World Team Champions with two sessions taking place each day and the finals taking place on July 15.

The SA Protea squad comprises Megan Marr (captain), Daniel Ferreira from the South, Kyle Trollip, Megan Frost, Tomas Forsythe and Jayme Tegg (reserve). Chris Kritzinger is the South African coach.

MGASA Chairman Kersley Vinay said, “We are excited to hold the team championship in our beautiful country and extend a hearty welcome to all visiting teams and their supporters.”

“Let the Games begin!”

The countries competing are: Australia, Denmark, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Wales, the USA and South Africa.
