SA ends in top 16 at Danone Nations Cup

Bennys Sports Development and Academy represented South Africa in the finals of this years’ Danone Nations Cup.

BENNYS Sports Development and Academy represented South Africa in the finals of this year’s Danone Nations Cup, and showed their class.

The world finals took place from Thursday, October 13, to Sunday, October 15, in Paris, France, where the winners of the 32 countries in the world competed for top honours.

The winners from South Africa, Bennys Sports Development and Academy u.12 soccer team, of Louis Trichard, showed their skills to pave their way to the play-offs, ending with a ranking of 14th out of the first 16 teams.

Germany won the 2016 Danone Nations Cup, beating Japan in the finals after going to a penalty shootout 0 (2) – 0 (1). Germany and Japan were ranked first and second, respectively.

The team from South Africa’s road to the final play-off started when they beat South Korea 1-0 in the first match.

They subsequently lost 0-1 to Brazil in their next match, to go through to the play-off stages, which determined the team’s ranking.

In the quarter-final play-offs, Bennys lost 0-1 to Tunisia 0-1. In the semi-final play-offs they beat Uruguay 2-1 and, in the final, they came up against Russia.

At full time each team had one goal apiece and went into a penalty shootout, but, unfortunately, Bennys’ u.12 team went down 3-1.
