Southern Suburbs Bowling Club still going strong

Southern Suburbs Bowling Club is looking forward to all the development.

AFTER 91 years the Southern Suburbs Bowling Club is still looking forward to a prosperous future. The club opened its doors way back in 1925 and since then has boasted many provincial players and winners of leagues.

But apart from the heydays in the club, members are still in full force maintaining and looking after the wonderful heritage site.

The club will form part and parcel of a mammoth upgrade of R200-million by the Johannesburg Municipality. The upgrade and refurbishment of the De Villiers Street development will go right past the Southern Suburbs Bowling Club and will end at Wemmer Pan. De Villiers Street will become a one-way up towards Rotunda Park and down towards Wemmer Pan with an improved middle section which will take the form of a cycling path.

The club members are very excited about the development which will make their bowling club more visible. The club still has many attractions such as bowling development for beginners, social bowls on Sundays and midweek bowling.

The members of the club play regularly in the summer league three divisions as well. Snacks and tea can be enjoyed when games are underway during the week and over weekends. The club also has a venue that can be hired for weddings or 21st celebrations.

Anyone interested in joining the club can contact Des Carson on 072 955 8382.
