Prawn Festival: Come join in the fun and have a feast

The Prawn Festival will be held at the Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday, February 27.

THE racing fraternity will once again enjoy a day of horseracing combined with this year’s Prawn Festival.

World Gauteng Guineas and Wilgerbosdrift Fillies Guineas races will be held at the Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday, February 27. Both headline races are Grade 2 and apart from the excitement on the course racegoers can join in the feast of the annual Prawn Festival.

The spectators on the day will be able to enjoy fresh succulent prawns at the bargain price of only R85 per person which includes half a kilogram of prawns, chips, rice and a choice of peri-peri, lemon butter or garlic butter sauces.

Gates open at 11:00 and entrance is free. Bring the whole family and let the children enjoy a host of entertainment including horse and chair swing carousels, parachute rides, a mechanical bull and a jumping castle with a slide.

The Prawn Festival and running of the R1-million Betting World Gauteng Guineas on Saturday is the first leg of the SA Triple Crown, with the second leg being the R2-million Grade 1 SA Classic on Saturday, April 2, and the R2-million Grade 1 SA Derby making up the third leg on Saturday, April 30.

There is a R2-million bonus should the same horse win all three of these prestigious races.
