The South does it again

The South does it again in the KSL championship.

TWO young karate from the South walked away as joint winners of the Karate Super League (KSL).

The KSL is an annual event where the best of the best compete to be crowned KSL Champion. It is an all-styles karate league consisting of three tournaments over the course of the year.

Participants accumulate points according to their results across the Bulls Challenge (Pretoria – May 2015), Lions Challenge (Johannesburg – August 2015) and the final Cheetah Challenge (Bloemfontein on September 12, 2015).

On Saturday, September 12, Savannah Hauser of Kihon Karate, who is trained by Sensei Phillip Venter in the style of Shotokan in Liefde en Vrede, and Slade Taylor, trained by Sensei Arnold de Beer of Glenvista Karate Academy for Goju traditional karate and Sandra Louw for sport karate, were crowned Champion of Champions in the junior division of the tournament.

Savannah and Slade both accumulated 4 500 points over the course of the tournament making them the joint junior champions of 2015.

This was Savannah’s first year participating in the KSL while Slade also shared the title in 2014.

Their results were as follows:

*Savannah: Lions Challenge – silver kata and bronze kumite. Bulls Challenge – silver kata and bronze kumite. Cheetahs Challenge – gold for kata and kumite.
