Bester powers his way to a first place medal

Southerner excels at powerlifting champs.

VETERAN powerlifter Kobus Bester from Pit Bull Power System Gym represented Gauteng South at the South African equipped powerlifting championship, recently held in Potchefstroom.

He lifted in the open class 83kg bodyweight division. According to coach Colin de Bruyn, the competition was highly contested in the equipped powerlifting division, where a lifter can wear a single-ply squat suit, a singly-ply bench press shirt, knee-wraps, wrist wraps and a belt.

Kobus achieved his personal best in all four lifts which included a 187,5kg squat, 152,5kg bench press, 207,5kg deadlift and 547,5kg total. These total scores secured him a first place medal and a third overall place in the open class.
