Charity Showdown: Children benefit from Lunchbox Fund.

The pre-season spectacular featured four Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams united to raise funds for disadvantaged children.

THIS year the much loved Charity Showdown proved to be a day filled with superstar soccer.

E.TV and OpenView HD partnered with the City of Tshwane to host the Charity Showdown at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday, July 19.

Mamelodi “The Brazillians” Sundowns, Ajax “Urban Warriors” Cape Town, University of Pretoria “AmaTuks” and Jomo “Ezinkosi” Cosmo were the four PSL teams who featured in the preseason showcase.

The Charity Showdown is an annual one-day soccer event staged to raise funds for The Lunchbox Fund. The inaugural Charity Showdown in 2014 was successful and raised R250 000 for The Lunchbox Fund. The funds were used to provide a year’s worth of lunches to 416 pre-schoolers in Early Childhood Development centres. These included play-schools, creches, educare and day care centres in Mamelodi, Ivory Park and Braamfisher.

“We were pleased to partner with the City of Tshwane for another exciting Showdown event and were grateful to unite with such great stakeholders for this year’s tournament. We value the partnership with City of Tshwane and the respectable PSL teams who were on board. Soccer is one of the most popular sports in this country, and education is one of the most critical childhood development tools. This is why this initiative is a very fulfilling one for us,” said Monde Twala, managing director for the E.TV channels division.

All the gate takings from the Charity Showdown will be donated to The Lunchbox Fund. The Lunchbox Fund currently feeds over 5 000 children in Gauteng, Limpopo, North West Province, Western Cape, Eastern Cape.
