Midas rugby and family day: The local derby between near neighbours proves to be a big success.

The local derby was held between the two clubs to determine where the Kevin de Klerk trophy.

A-SQUARE Forklift Alberton Rugby Club first side snatched up a vital nail biting win against Union Bulldogs over the weekend.

The local derby was held on Saturday, May 23, at Pioneers Park, when the two clubs met to determine where the Kevin de Klerk trophy will stand for 2015.

Alberton was victorious in their efforts and won the match 14-8.

The two sides were at logger heads going to the change rooms at half time. Union Bulldogs only opened the score some 20 minutes into play in the second half. Fly half Renier Wienener slotted over a penalty, to make it 3-0 in their favour.

Alberton responded with a well deserved corner try by Anthony Kapp which was converted by Reinand Swanepoel, to take his team to the front for the first time in the match.

Union Bulldogs then made their presence felt with their own try in the corner by wing, Shane Germishuys to take the lead by a single point, 8-7.

The match was all but over as the visitors scored in the dying minutes and claimed the much coveted trophy.
