Gauteng Central Interclub tournaments

Gauteng Central Interclub took place at Reading Golf Club.

THE PGA of South Africa has expanded its new Interclub tournaments to all five of its regions this year as part of the organisation’s drive to create greater value for golf clubs around the country.

The Gauteng Central Interclub took place at Reading Golf Club at the end of March, and was won by the team from Royal Oak Country Club.

The Interclub tournaments, sponsored by Europe’s leading airline, Turkish Airlines, were designed to create more synergy between the PGA of South Africa and golf clubs in the regions, and offer greater commercial value to the clubs through the PGA’s Partners and Affiliates programme.

For the first time this year, the Interclubs will take place in the five regions of Gauteng North, the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and Northern Cape, Southern and Eastern Cape and Gauteng Central.

“We want the golf clubs to know that they can use what the PGA of South Africa can offer them to add greater value to their members. Companies want to associate with golf clubs, and as a respected brand in South African golf, we are there to facilitate this, from better insurance options to more competitive catering solutions for the clubs.

“We have developed very strong commercial partnerships, and we want the clubs to know that we can spearhead such partnerships to their benefit as well,” said Andy Bean, the National Business Development Manager for the PGA of South Africa.

The decision to expand the programme follows the first two successful Interclubs hosted in the Western Cape and Southern and Eastern Cape, where each golf club was represented by the club captain, president, general manager and club professional in a one-day competition.
