Nedbank Cup Quarter-finals promises fireworks

The quarter-finals will be played on April 11 and 12.

SOME of the big giants dropped out of the final stages of the coveted Nedbank Cup when they were beaten by their counterparts. The South saw all their contenders leaving the competition. Defending champions Orlando Pirates went down to SuperSport United FC, ushering in a new champion. Kaizer Chiefs went out at the hands of National First Division club, Black Leopards, 2-1. NFD club from the South Jomo Cosmos was beaten by Black Aces 1-0.

The quarterfinal draw to Africa’s most lucrative domestic cup competition took place on Monday March 23 at the Southgate Shopping Centre. Fans from the remaining last eight teams gathered to witness who their teams will be coming up against in what has been a thrilling Nedbank Cup so far.

Mamelodi Sundowns overcame their bogey side Platinum Stars 3-1 to reach the quarterfinals, along with BidVest Wits, Ajax Cape Town, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Vasco da Gama.

After battling through two rounds of competition, a place in the semi-finals beckons for the teams that can continue to show form and fight as they aim to become the stuff of legends.

It has been a rocky road to this point for some, but they will know at this point of the competition they have as good a chance as any to make it all the way to the 2015 Nedbank Cup final on Saturday May 16.

The quarter-finals will be played on April 11 and 12.
