Road closures at disabled athletics

Road closures at UJ Athletics Stadium from March 31 to April 2.

ORGANISERS of the Nedbank National Championships for the Physically Disabled would hereby like to notify local residents and spectators who will be travelling to the event taking place at UJ Athletics Stadium from March 31 to April 2.

The annual championship, which brings together South Africa’s most accomplished athletes with disabilities, will be held until 20:00 each evening, and apologies are extended in advance to local residents of Westdene and the surrounding areas for any inconvenience caused during the event.

Many of the country’s Paralympic stars will turn up as they continue their preparation for the 2016 Rio Games, including nine medallists from the 2012 London showpiece.

Hosted by the South African Sports Association for the Physically Disabled, the national spectacle will attract three-time Paralympic champions Hilton Langenhoven and Fanie van der Merwe, as well as track and field stalwarts Ilse Hayes and Tebogo Mokgalagadi.

Local residents and spectators are invited to attend the championships in support of these inspirational stars as they aim to showcase their talents on home soil, before carrying the national flag at global level.
