Classic Day at Turffontein

Classic Day, the second leg of the SA Triple Crown and Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara.

DON’T miss out on this one-of-a-kind family day at the races!

Classic Day, the second leg of the SA Triple Crown and Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara, will take place on Saturday March 28 at Turffontein Racecourse. The classic race day will start at 11:00.

The second leg of the SA Triple Crown, which is billed as horse racing’s ultimate test, is the R2 million SA Classic over 1 800m.

There’s a R2 million bonus awaiting the horse that succeeds in winning all three legs. It takes a special horse to accomplish this, and currently Piere Strydom from Alberton on winner first leg Harry’s Son will most probably make a dash for the winning post, if they can come through.

Two horses have won the Triple Crown. The mighty horse Chesnut, that many rank as the best in the history of SA racing, and Louis The King that took the bonus in 2014.

Apart for the much coveted prizes on track, there will be more than just entertainment. Campbell and Campbell are proud to host The Country Garden area at Classic Day. This intimate race day is perfectly suited for families wanting to spend time together, and the unusual day-time activities will ensure everyone goes home tired and happy.

Sundowner Adventures and MBH Fly-fishing will showcase their fly-fishing experiences. Children can enjoy pony rides, garden games, flower arranging and other kid friendly activities. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra between each of the races. Food and beverages will be available throughout the day.

Country Classic is the theme for the day, so guests will be elegantly dressed with large brimmed hats and comfortable outdoor attire.

Entry into the Country Garden area costs R50, children under 12 enter free if accompanied by an adult.
