Amateur boxing tournament

Amateur boxing once a month on a Friday evening.

SOUTHERN Suburbs Boxing Club has recently turned 21 children to amateur boxing through grading at Booysens boxing club.

The amateur calendar this year does not offer a lot of boxing, and in order to get so many of their boxers in action the club will present a tournament once a month on a Friday night to expose them to tournaments.

The first of these events is on Friday March 13 at the Southern Suburbs Sports Club. Ten fights will be on the cards at each event and the events will all start at 19:00 for 19:30.

All fights are pre-matched for smooth running of an event that will only allow 100 audience members the chance to see fighters like Troy da Paiva, Jose Jorge, Warren the Brave le Roux, Tino Perestrelo, Lukho Mbece, and three boxers from Anton Gilmore ‘s club for underprivileged kids who are in conflict with crime in Hillbrow called Fight with Insight.

Reggie Magashoa was one such boxer and has been with Anton for five years now, who is studying business management. It will afford another chance to show his mettle. Luke Lamprecht, club coach, is confident the three new boxers from this remarkable gym will blaze a path for all those children.

Entrance to the Friday March 13 event is R50 and it’s best you get your tickets in advance as 100 is the limit.

Call Anton Gilmore 083 653 0190. The venue is 1A Berg Street ,Oakdene.
