Amajimbos eager for AYC kick-off

Amajimbos ready to go and could not wait for the kick-off.

Amajimbos held an early training session on Saturday morning ahead of the start of the 2015 CAF u.17 African Youth Championships, which officially started on Sunday February 15.

Amajimbos open their AYC campaign with a tricky match against Cote d’Ivoire on Monday February 16 at the Municipal Stadium, a match coach Molefi Ntseki said was important to kickstart their campaign.

Amajimbos held a vibrant training session on Saturday morning, and captain Nelson Maluleke said he could not wait for the kick-off.

“We are eager to get the ball rolling. We have been here in Niamey for almost a week now, and we are ready for the challenge. The team is looking good, and we have somehow acclimatised to the hot conditions,”said Maluleke.

The industrious captain said the medical team had been insisting on making sure the team consumes as much liquids as possible to remain in good condition.

“We will play to our strengths and the entire team is raring to go,” he added.

Amajimbos are in Group B of the tournament and will face Cote d’Ivoire in their opening match on Monday afternoon at 15:30 at the Municipal Stadium, before playing Mali three days later at the same venue, and round off their group stage encounters on February 22 against Cameroon at the General Seyni Kountche Stadium.

Coach Ntseki said it was important to start the tournament with a win.

“That will set the tone for our campaign. We have been here for a week now and are used to the conditions.

“We are going to throw everything into Monday’s encounter and if we come out unscathed, we will be on the way. We are very determined. We need to go to Chile, that is our main goal,” he added.
