New venue for Tshwane Open

Tshwane Open finds a new home for 2015.

“THERE will be quite a lot of players who are currently playing in the European tour who will be available for the Tshwane Open,” said Selwyn Nathan, Executive Director of the Sunshine Tour.

“We’re not sure who of the international players will qualify for this tournament, but we can say that there will be a big group of South African players who will make their appearance in the Open.” said Nathan.

The Tshwane Open 2015 has found a new home after the Open was held at The Els Club Copperleaf for the first two years. Pretoria Country Club will play host to the 2015 Tshwane Open from March 12 to 15.

Well known South African golfers will be in action according to Nathan, “We know that there is no tournament on the European Tour, thus they will be available and we can state that well known world-class South African players will be in action.”

Players in the likes of Ernie Els, is a possibility and Keith Horne, who resides in Alberton, who is often a great contender on home soil. “This is one way for our golfers in these kinds of tournamements to test their skills. A lot of them are currently playing abroad and are flying the South African flag,’” said Nathan.

The third edition of the Open will be held at the 105-year old club, and it will be the new home for the tournament. The co-sanctioned Sunshine Tour and European Tour will have prize-money of 18 million and has gained significant international exposure, rising from a global television reach of more than 201 million households in 2013 to more than 217 million last year.

The PCC has a history that goes back to 1910. In 2004 the golf course was redesigned by Gary Player. It has hosted several tournaments on the Sunshine Tour, but this will be their first major European event.

“We are proud of our partnership with the city of Tshwane and the growth it has shown in only two years,” said Nathan.
