SuperSport United shows new faces

Nkhatha came from Southern-based PSL team Kaizer Chiefs to join the Pretoria-based side.

Two of SuperSport United’s new signings, Kingston Nkhatha and Jeremy Brockie, began their new careers at the club and will be in action as early as February.

Head coach and former Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund said: “They will be available for the club when we start the second half of the Premier Soccer League season.”

Nkhatha came from Southern-based PSL team Kaizer Chiefs, and he said,” I am excited to start under Gordon and I will be lucky if he can use me to great effect.”

Igesund said: “We are far too many points behind (leaders Kaizer Chiefs), and we have to be realistic about the fact that this needs to be corrected. We want to put together a team for the future and want the players to gel for next year, but we still have the Nedbank Cup in front of us.

“Whatever I have asked from Stan Matthews (CEO), he made possible. I though that I will only get the players in the middle of the year, but they came now, and I can prepare for the new season with half of the other left.”

“I couldn’t have been happier with the two signings, Brockie reminds me of a young George Koumatarakis with his aerial power. Nkhatha is one of the top strikers in this country; there is no reason why we should not call him a superstar. I know he will score a lot of goals for us,” he said of the former Black Leopards and Free State Star player.

Igesund was also full of praise for SuperSport United CEO Stanley Matthews, saying: “Working with Stan is absolutely great, he is a world-class CEO. Stan has done a magnificent job at this club.”

Brockie went on to express his delight at being afforded the opportunity to turn out for the current Telkom Knockout champions.

“SuperSport is an ambitious club, they want to win things and I’m happy to be here,” he said, coming from the New Zealand outfit Wellington Pheonix, and also played for his country.

SuperSport has also captured Polokwane City’s Mothusi Gopane and Luvolwethu Mpeta of Platinum Stars on pre-contracts.

In the meantime SuperSport United Football Club has acquired midfielder Daine Klate from Orlando Pirates in the South on loan until the end of the current season with immediate effect. The midfielder has signed a six-month loan contract, and he and Matsatsantsa are in advanced discussions for Klate to sign a pre-contract with the player for July 2015.
