South African Fed Cup team to show finesse

South African Fed Cup team will soon leave for Europe where they will take part in the Fed Cup Euro/Afrcia Group 2 Tie.

KIA South African Fed Cup team will soon leave for Europe, where they will take part in the Fed Cup Euro/Afrcia Group 2 Tie.

“I think we have a good balance in the team, our singles are just as strong as the doubles and I can use the players either in the single ties or as double ties,” said Fed Cup team Captain Earl Grainger. “We are quite a strong outfit and it makes it much easier to plan from the outset of play.”

The Fed Cup squad had a training session at Bedfordview Country Club on Wednesday Janaury 21. The team will be departing for Estonia soon to take part in the Fed Cup Euro/Africa Group 2 tie from February 4 to 7 in Tallinn, Estonia. South Africa will face the hosts as well as Bosnia Herzegovina, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Egypt and Slovenia in the round-robin competition to be played at the Tere Tennis Centre.

“It will be good for once not be the number one in the squad, but we all welcome Chani Scheepers back in the team and think that we are now a stronger team,” said Proteas number two player, Chanel Simmonds.

South African number one, Chani Scheepers, will be joining the team in Estonia after competing at the Australian Open. Michelle Sammons and Ilze Hattingh makes up the rest of the team, who will face their Fed Cup Tie in Estonia.
