Buzzing excitement for second KFC T20 international at Bidvest Wanderers

KFC T20 second match will be played at Wanderers.

THE second KFC T20 International between South Africa and West Indies due to be hosted at Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Sunday January 11 has been met with buzzing excitement in the Highveld.

With a continuous stream of tickets sold at the stadium ticket office and high volumes of online purchases from ticketpro.co.za, the tickets are, proverbially, flying off the shelves. A packed Bull Ring is anticipated for this weekend.

“We are thrilled by the reaction received from the public and encourage them to pick up the last tickets so that we can give the Proteas the support that they deserve. We have also gone to great lengths to ensure that the match day experience is one that our spectators will enjoy,” said Chief Executive, Greg Fredericks.

Proteas T20 captain, Faf du Plessis, says the upcoming three-match KFC T20 International series will be the ideal opportunity for the inexperienced players in the squad to test their skill against quality opposition. The Proteas have rested the majority of their senior players after a successful Sunfoil Test series, which allows the coaching staff to test their depth keeping in mind the ICC World Twenty20 next year.

The West Indies are boosted by the return of their T20 “big guns”, and will enter the series with an advantage and some confidence of their form in the T20 format.

“If you look at their team they are probably the favourites on paper,” Du Plessis admitted. “They are playing their full-strength team but these are our conditions and we have a lot of exciting young talent. For me they are the dominant T20 team in the world at the moment, they are full of match-winners. It will be a really tough series for us, but that’s how you want it, you want your young guys to compete, that will make them players who are good for South African cricket.”

Park and ride services will be operating from the Melrose Arch shopping centre and tickets are available from ticketpro.co.za. The wildly popular Tuk Tuk service will also be operating in the surrounding areas.

Road closures on Corlett Drive will be activated from 12:00 between the Rudd and Athol Oaklands Junctions to increase the safety for pedestrian spectators.
