Chiefs on winning streak

Kaizer Chiefs still on a winning streak in the ABSA Premiership.

Kaizer Chiefs claimed derby joy on Saturday December 6 at FNB Stadium when they continued their winning streak in the ABSA Presmiership.

The team from the South won against near neighbours, Orlando Pirates, by beating them 2-0 in the local derby.

There were also victories for Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Platinum Stars as the league closed in on the halfway point of 2014/15.

Siphiwe Tshabalala scored after 51 minutes and Siphelele Mthembu added a stoppage-time second as Start Baxter’s men moved to 36 points, a massive 13 clear at the summit, after 14 games played.

The Buccaneers, whose buildup to the clash was rocked by the resignation of Vladamir Vermezovic as coach, dropped to ninth as a result.

Defending champions Sundowns is the new second-placed side following a 2-0 triumph over relegation strugglers Free State Stars in Atteridgeville.

Cuthbert Malajila (12) and Khama Billiat (62) were both on target at the Lucas Moripe Stadium as the Brazilians moved to 23 points, with a game in hand.

Two other teams are on the same tally – Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town.

The Students were 1-0 winners over Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday, when Ben Motshwari (84) grabbed the winner six minutes from time.

The result at Free State Stadium left Siwelele in tenth position, one place above SuperSport United, who held the Urban Warriors to a goalless draw at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

Polokwane, the Q-Innovation quarter two leaders, are up to eighth on the log, after they made it five wins out of six – the odd result being a goalless draw with Chiefs – when they came from a goal down to oust Chippa United 3-1 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

George Akpabio fired the Chilli Boys into an eighth-minute lead in Limpopo, but goals from Tshepo Molala (38), Rendani Ndou (62) and Dodam Dogere, who netted a stoppage time penalty, secured the win.

Chippa stayed sixth with the result, a point ahead of Polokwane.

Sandwiched in between them is Black Aces, after they claimed a battling 3-1 win over AmaZulu in KwaMashu.

AmaZayoni had goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane sent off with 25 minutes to play, but before then had scored through Tendai Ndoro (44), S’boniso Gumede (49) and Eddie Ngalo (60) at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

Goodman Dlamini (55) scored what proved to be a consolation for Usuthu, who stayed bottom of the log after an eighth loss of the campaign.

Platinum Stars, immediately above them at the start of the round, moved up to 13th place, but are one of four teams on 14 points, after they beat Moroka Swallows 1-0 in Dobsonville – the winning goal coming from Ndumiso Mabena (10) early on.

Also on the same points are the Birds, Free State Stars and University of Pretoria, who played to a goalless draw against fifth-placed Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday.
