Herbert Park has a great bowling start

The 2014/2015 bowling season is open.

BOTH Perry Habib, the longest honorary member of Herbert Park and Jimmy Gronbeck, the second longest member of the club, who are both in their 90’s, were invited to open the new bowling season for 2014/2015, by Ronnie Bell, President of Herbert Park, by bowling the first woods at Herbert Park on Sunday November 2.

Herbert Park Bowling Club had set a goal last year to revive the game of bowls by inviting everyone who wants to play this grand old sport, young or old.

The club has now doubled its membership since last year and Wednesdays are the pensioners’ bowling days, and they are well represented by these fine young and old people who are enjoying this support to the full.

On Wednesday afternoons the learners from Frances Vorwerg School are coming to the club to have a game during their lunch break, and their numbers have now increased since last year. They are very special and the club have taught them how to play the sport.

The club is inviting everyone to come and try out bowling and the club will be only too glad to help.

Herbert Park is the home of KBB Moths Shell Hole, St Andrews Scottish Society and “Onder Ons” Hollands Scottish Society at 71 Turf Club Street, Turffontein.

The club can be contact 011 683 7902.
