2014 Carling Black Label Coach the Coaches programme had a surprise visit from senior national head coach, Shakes Mashaba joining the 58 SAFA C-Level candidates at the Sandton Sports Club.

The Carling Black Label Coach the Coaches programme is a unique coaching development programme conducted by the award-winning beer brand, Carling Black Label, and the governing body of local football, the South African Football Association.

A total of 58 passionate Champion coaches selected from the SAB League and Carling League of Champions will be awarded with the indispensable SAFA C-Level qualification upon the completion of this course, which is conducted by the highly respected SAFA Coaching Instructors and renowned Sports Scientists.

To qualify for this programme, coaches had to finish at the summit of their SAB regional leagues across the 52 SAFA Regions. Also, six of the coaches were selected from the Carling League of Champions tournament, which is another Carling Black Label Community soccer initiative.

The coaches were educated on the importance of leadership as a coach as well as basic movement skills required of a modern footballer.

Bafana Bafana head coach Shakes Mashaba gave his full support to the Carling Black Label Coach the Coaches programme, saying that this is one of many programmes that are required to take South African football to the next level.

“Coaching is a critical factor in our football. There has been a very strong focus on player development, but this cannot be done successfully if we do not equip and train our coaches accordingly. Programmes such as these are critical in assisting us in improving the standards of football in our country,” said the Bafana mentor.

Carling Black Label Coach the Coaches programme ended on Sunday November 10.
