Lions to take on fierce onslaught from Cheetahs

The race is on for the coveted ABSA Currie Cup.

Xerox Golden Lions will face an onslaught from Toyota Cheetahs in the last play-off matches in this year’s ABSA Currie Cup fixtures.

Though the Lions have secured a spot in the semi-finals, the local team from Johannesburg still need to secure the home match.

The kick-off time will be at 15:00 at Ellis Park.

Head coach Johan Ackermann is still confident in his side to pull through the win against the Free State team. “They are always a difficult team to beat and for them it’s touch or go for a semi-final place.”

He has named his team to take on the Toyota Free State Cheetahs at Ellis Park this Saturday.

In the forwards, Derick Minnie will start at flank and Warren Whiteley has returned from Springbok duty to start at eighthman. He will also captain the side.

As a result of these changes, Warwick Tecklenburg and Willie Britz will shift to the bench to provide cover.

Meanwhile, in the backline, Howard Mnisi will get a start at inside centre. Harold Vorster will provide centre cover off the wood.
