THE build-up to the last leg of the Supreme Sand Racing Season, unveiled the final field for the Emerald Cup on Thursday September19. The announcement will reveal the final horses to run the main race on Saturday September 27 on Tellytrack.

Horse racing purist including owners, trainers and jockeys will lock eyes on this premier race, which received a cash injection when its stake was upped from the previous year’s R600 000 to R1 million.

The Emerald Cup Grade 2 race will be run over 1 450m on the Vaal sand track. The Brazilian bred winner of the August Stakes, Anger, will face off against a tough field including last year’s Emerald Cup winner, In a Rush.

Apart from the electrifying live racing, race patrons will be treated to live music from award-winning South African performers including Lloyd Cele, Lonehill Estate and Daniel Baron.

Coined as Africa’s richest race on sand and sponsored by the Emerald Resort, The Emerald Cup was first run in 2005 and is the Vaal Racecourse’s biggest race of the year.

On the day, picnic sites will be available right next to the track to give patrons the experience and thrill of live racing. Food stalls and a play area for kids will also be on offer.

Gates open at 11:00 and entry is free. To book your hospitality packages call Agnes on 011 681 1702.
