WHEN Lehlohonolo Majoro lashed the ball into the back of the net to win the Carling Black Label Cup for Kaizer Chiefs last year, he sent the Amakhosi fans wild. Now he aims to repeat the feat … but this time in the colours of Orlando Pirates.
The Mighty Buccaneers will face the Phefeni Glamour Boys in a quest to claim back the trophy at the FNB Stadium on Saturday July 26.
Majoro joined The Buccaneers in February this year, but due to a few injuries, his appearances have been limited so far.
He is aiming to make up for lost time and knows that the Carling Black Label Cup provides the perfect opportunity to kickstart his Orlando Pirates career by creating Champion memories for his new fans.
Supporters of the club have welcomed him to their home and are eager to see the 27-year-old in action in the showpiece fixture. He is now the most voted-for striker at the Bucs camp, with 394 724 votes at last count – a massive backing from the Orlando Pirates faithful.
The player, who prefers to do his talking on the pitch, says only he is desperate to do well for The Ghost.
“I want to achieve great things with the team,” Majoro said.
“I am pleased to have joined Orlando Pirates. This is a club with a rich and proud history. I want to tell the supporters that I will don this jersey with pride and I look forward to making them happy in everything I do.”
He will be a massive threat to the Kaizer Chiefs defence, though they will have a big advantage against him – the hours he spent with Amakhosi on their training pitch since joining the in 2011.
There is not a back-four in the country that will know Majoro better, know his tricks and how to counter his style of play either than his former teammates.
The job for the Kaizer Chiefs backline – and the Champion Coaches who choose them – will be to put the theory into action on the pitch.
Majoro showed with his goal in the 2013 Carling Black Label Cup edition that he needs just half a chance as he struck home the rebound after Bernard Parker’s header had hit the crossbar, and that has been what has made him one of the most prolific strikers in the Premier Soccer League since his debut with AmaZulu in the 2010/11 season.
He is more likely to be partnered by Kermit Erasmus up front in the Carling Black Label Cup, and that two will make be a handful for the Chiefs defense.
Erasmus has a blistering pace and loves to run at defenders, while Majoro is more of a ‘fox-in-the-box’, ready to finish the opportunities created by his strike-partner.
Neither player is particularly adept at holding up the ball in the style of a Lennox Bacela, which means Orlando Pirates will play a quick passing game than rather trying to get the ball behind the Chiefs defence for the pair to run to.
Being the first player to play for both sides in the Carling Black Label Cup, should Majoro score come derby day, he will also become the first player ever to net in consecutive years – a feat made all the more special by the fact that it will be a goal for either side.
