BOXING is going for a six after it was announced that a bigger and better Super Six tournament will on the cards.

Six of the best fighters will slug it out in the ring, and the boxing fraternity can lick their lips for a showcase of skills in the light heavyweight division. The winner will take home a whopping R1,6 million.

The entire tournament carries a accumulated purse money of R5 million. The winner also has a chance to fight in Monaco for another R1 million which will be at stake.

Returning to the ring is undefeated former IBO champion Tommy Oosthuizen and number one seed in the Super Six. He moves up a weight and will now contest the Super Six. “I am back and Harold (Volbrecht) and I have decided to move up a weight, which suits me better and I will be going fully for this crown,” said Oosthuizen. Currently he is rated number four in the WBC. He will fight Wilbeforce Shihepo from Namibia, number six seeded.

The second seed, Ryno Liebenberg, WBC rated six and also undefeated, will face Denis Grachev. Concluding the third pair are Johnny Muller, who will be tested by Roberto Bolonti. Liebenberg and Muller will also have their WBC titles on the line.

Semi-finalists will face each other in September, which will be determined by the three winners, plus a best loser. First-round boxers will each earn R250 000, second round R350 000 each, while the overall winner takes the R1 million and the runner-up takes R500 000.

“All the boxers will have to be in good condition as this will be a highly contested event,” said Hot Box trainer Colin Nathan, while Harold Volbrecht said that he is privileged to have two of the boxers coming out of his gymnasium.

On the same bill, Paul Kamanga from Box Office will fight fellow Southerner Kaizer Mbabuza from BRD Boxing Academy for the WBA silver belt in the junior-welterweight division.
