African flavour cricket at sixes

Cricket fans can look forward to the sixes cricket which will open the new season.

THE cricket fraternity can look forward to a new format of the game when cricket sixes will be opening the season in September.

“I have worked on this idea for more than three years and eventually everything fell into place,” said CEO of The Unlimited Titans, Jacques Faul. ”This is not a new idea, as we had the Hong Kong sixes, but in South Africa and Africa, it is totally a new concept.”

In an exceptional move set to revitalise cricket on the African continent and kick-start the domestic season in September 2014 in style, six teams from Africa and six South African franchises will contest the Global Softech Sixes at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Kenya will feature in a six-a-side format with an African Cup Challenge up for grabs from September 4 to 7.

Over the first two days, The Unlimited Titans, the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras, the Sunfoil Dolphins, the Chevrolet Knights, the bizhub Highveld Lions and the Chevrolet Warriors will go toe to toe in a Franchise Challenge at SuperSport Park. Afterwards the Proteas will take on the African countries. Both challenges would form part of the Global Softech Sixes.

The tournament concept was initiated and conceptualised by The Unlimited Titans, the brainchild of Jacques Faul, CEO of the Unlimited Titans..

The Global Softech Sixes tournament is sponsored by an emerging South African based ICT (Information and Communication Technology) company, Global Softech Solutions (www.softechsolutions.net).

“This sponsorship opportunity is an ideal fit for Global Softech Solutions, through which we wish to support the game of cricket and we may also be emerging as business in Africa and the rest of the world,” said Leela Ramesh Yemineni, Chief Executive Officer of Global Softech Solutions. The tournament will be televised live on SuperSport to an expansive audience on the African continent.

“This tournament is set to add a fun element that might appeal to a broader audience, which in turn might lure more fans and future players to the royal game,” said Jacques Faul, CEO of The Unlimited Titans.

“The Global Softech Sixes also offers a unique marketing opportunity for the game of cricket to sport communities in the rest of Africa, while also strengthening relationships with our cricketing partners on the continent,” said Faul.

All playing kit will be branded, displaying the logo of the sponsor – back and front, but the franchises may display their team sponsors, media sponsor and technical kit sponsor.

Every batting team will be limited to five overs.

Five of the six team members are allowed to bowl one over each, a concept that will ensure frenetic action, power hitting and unrivalled enthusiasm.
