Club cricket gets a kicking start

CSA Club Cricket championships are well under way with the finals taking place at SuperSport Park on Monday April 28.

Club Cricket in South Africa is alive and well. The Momentum National Club championship is well under way and the best team will walk away with a whopping first prize.

This championship brings together the champion clubs from 12 affiliates, which will face each other from Wednesday April 23 to Sunday April 27. Once again Northerns Cricket Union will play host to these teams with the finals taking place at SuperSport Park on Monday April 28.

Cricket South Africa has secured the best possible sponsor from Momentum, who has now become a household name in cricket in South Africa. Momentum has put up the pool prize of R80 000 plus other benefits. The winning team will walk away with R50 000, while runners-up receive R20 000. Player of the tournament receives a weekend getaway, best batsman – R5 000 and best bowler – R5 000. The winning club also nominates a development club to receive kit worth R10 000.

This only is proof of the fact that club cricket in South Africa is on a wealthy note. Tuks will be bidding for their hat trick, while they will have stern opposition from most of the other clubs in this prestigious event.

“We are proud to be hosting the club cricket championships in South African once again,” said the CEO of Northern Cricket Union, Jacques Faul.

“As elsewhere in the world, club cricket is also a very important recreational platform. It helps ordinary and passionate people to enjoy sport across diverse cultural boundaries and it inevitably becomes central to the community it serves,” said Danie van den Bergh, Head of Brand at Momentum.
