Chiefs go down at the hands of Teko

Chiefs are level with Sundowns on the ABSA PSL with one match in hand.

A Teko Modise goal in the 76th minute gave Mamelodi Sundowns a vital 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday April 5 in front of a 44 000 home crowd to take them level on points with Chiefs at the top of the Absa Premiership.

Both sides now sit on 52 points but Chiefs have one game in hand over Sundowns.

The visiting Sundowns controlled the opening 15 minutes of the affair and asked lots of questions of the Chiefs defence, which stood firm despite some powerful running from the visitors.

Hlompho Kekana and Lebogang Mokoena had some early attempts at goal from long range and Mokoena’s shot tested Itumeleng Khune who had to tip the ball over the crossbar for a corner.

Chiefs came close in the 16th minute when Siphiwe Tshabalala’s dangerous cross was tipped away by Kennedy Mweene with Kingston Nkhatha in close proximity.

In the 39th minute George Lebese wasted a very good chance when he got his first time effort horribly off target following a corner kick.

On the stroke of half time Chiefs almost took the lead when George Lebese stung the fingers of Kennedy Mweene from inside the danger area.

After the break Chiefs came very close to scoring the opener in the 52nd minute when Morgan Gould headed a corner kick onto the crossbar and it bounced back into play only for Nkhatha to head the rebound onto the bar again.

Ten minutes later Chiefs had a very good chance to score when Nkhatha curled a shot past Mweene’s fingers and just past the far upright.

Then Sundowns opened the scoring through Teko Modise whose floated ball into the danger area evaded everyone and sailed past Khune and into the far corner of goal.
