Banyana’s new coach visits Nike Centre

Banyana's new coach Vera Pauw visited the Nike Football Centre where Premier League coaching took place.

BANYANA Banyana’s newly appointed Coach Vera Pauw visited the well known Nike Football Centre on Monday March 17.

“I just got off the plane and Fran asked me if I would like to visit the Nike Centre,” said Pauw, who arrived from Netherlands on Monday to start her SAFA coaching contract as the new Head coach of the highly successful Banyana Banyana Women’s team.

She was Netherlands Technical Director and Women’s National Team coach from 2004 to 2010, leading the country to the bronze medal in the European Championships in Finland in 2009.

Between 1998 and 2004, she was the Technical Director for the National Women’s football in Scotland.

“I will be situated in Pretoria, where the High Performance Centre is, and from there I will perform my duties. I am very passionate about soccer and hopefully I can take the team further in their quest to become the best team in Africa and the World.”

Pauw’s immediate task is to prepare the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana for the CAF African Women Championships (AWC), scheduled for October in the Namibian capital of Windhoek.

Three teams from the continent will qualify for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
