Igesund to keep on training Bafana

Gordon Igesund will still be the coach of the national team.

The head coach of Bafana Bafana, Gordon Igesund, will remain the team’s coach until his contract runs out in August.

“I will carry on coaching the national team until August and then I will go from there and make my future plans,” said Igesund at a press conference.

“I will coach Bafana to play against Brazil in March, and I will coach them to the best of my abilities and also to win. This is my first priority and I am thinking only about that at this stage.”

The joint meeting of the Technical and International Affairs Committees of the South African Football Association met last week in Cape Town from February 2 to 4 as mandated by the NEC Lekgotla of the Association.

The joint sitting considered a report of the Head Coach of the Men’s Senior National Team for the 2014 CHAN Tournament and, after extensive deliberations, made the following decisions:

The meeting has taken note that the Head Coach has failed to deliver on his mandates for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the AFCON 2013 Tournament as well as the CHAN 2014 Tournament;

Notwithstanding, the meeting decided that the Association does not want to act in an impromptu manner but rather, must plan systematically for immediate and future programs of the Men’s Senior National Team and all of the other national teams, men and women. In this regard, the meeting decided that the Head Coach must continue with his work and, in particular, get the Men’s Senior National Team ready for the match between Bafana Bafana and Brazil, scheduled for March 5.

Other decisions were also made at this meeting in order to streamline SAFA.
