Phumelela’s Christmas Tree postponed

Christmas Tree postponed to Wednesday

Phumelela’s Christmas Tree race meeting, which was scheduled for today, has been moved to Wednesday December 11 in deference to the memorial service for Nelson Mandela at FNB stadium in Soweto, where he last appeared in public at the 2010 World Cup final.

Many heads of state, including USA President Barack Obama, are among the 90,000 people expected to attend the memorial service.

All Phumelela race meetings before the official state funeral on Sunday will be dedicated to the former president and global icon and a moment’s silence in his honour will be observed at each.

Gold Circle has moved the Clairwood race meeting scheduled for this Sunday to Monday December 16, when it will form a doubleheader with the fixture at Kenilworth in Cape Town.

The times of Races 1 to 4 at Wednesday’s Turffontein meeting have been changed. New times are:
Race 1: 16:05
Race 2: 16:40
Race 3: 17:15
Race 4: 17:50
