Devastating boxing at last tournament

Christmas Cracker Box ‘n Dine was presented by African Ring and Golden Gloves in conjunction with Emperors Palace on Tuesday November 26.

KEMPTON PARK – There is no answer to experience in the boxing ring. This was proven when both Johnny Muller and Ryno Liebenberg climbed into the ring for the last big tournament on the 2013 boxing calendar.

Muller retained his South African light-heavyweight title when he delivered a devastating punch to young prospect Vhonani Netshidamboni in his first defence. Muller ended the number one contender’s march to the title when he planted a right hand to the side of Netshidamboni’s head sending him to the canvas flat on his face. Muller won by a KO 30seconds into the second round.

Liebenberg, holds the WBC International Silver belt at light-heavyweight and had a challenge from Daniel Allotey from Ghana in the catch-weight division over ten rounds. Allotey, who came in over weight and in a very poor condition, was clearly not up for the fight. Liebenberg landed a devastating left hook to KO the boxer from Ghana in the first round. His record now reads 14-0 and he will pursue more titles in 2014.

In the undercard of the evening, Dowayne Combrink from Alberton had his work cut out with Simon Mokwena. The catch-weight fight went the distance of six rounds. Combrink won by a unanimous decision from the judges 59/54, 59/54, 59/54.

In the other fights of the evening Ricardo Hiraman KO’d Thabo Mohlake, featherweights, in 1:23 of the first round and bantamweight Ronald Malindi won with a first round KO against Vuyo Majavu in the first round 1:55.
