Love the Game

This was one of the best performances we have seen in a very long time from our men in Green and Gold.

Bokke, Bokke Bokke!!!! Lions, Lions, Lions!!!

After last weekend’s test match between the Springboks and the Wallabies I am sure you will agree that this was one of the best performances we have seen in a very long time from our men in Green and Gold.

What makes a team play the way they did? Many rugby lovers were pessimistic and thought the Boks would struggle against the Aussies after their Argentinean game. Pumas are a formidable team, especially in Argentina. They play with a passion that is not found in another country … maybe in New Zealand. The Argentinians showed this weekend against the Kiwi’s that they are a side to be reckoned with. The Argentinians unveiled cracks in the All Black team, especially the defence and play around ruck and mauls.

Let’s get back to the Boks, as this was a text book game of how to grind your opponent away in the tight five phases, creating a great platform for the backs to attack from behind. Juan de Villiers played a true captain’s game, leading by example and making sure those around him were inspired. The Boks used their time and space very well, playing very quickly from ruck and mauls ensuring the backs could run the ball at the Wallabies. The Boks defence was superb, no … better than superb.

The players were committed and played for each other. One could see the passion they played with by looking at Heyneke’s reactions in the coaches’ box. This was awesome to see.

Coming closer to home, the Lions victory was as good as the Boks. Scoring six tries in Kimberley is brilliant. Now is crunch time, as they need to beat the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein this weekend. They would need to run the ball wisely, because the Cheetahs are brilliant running from broken play. They almost play the “French style of rugby” from their own 22m area. Beware Lions of the speedy Cheetahs!

Let’s hold thumbs for our Boks in New Zealand. They can beat the Kiwi’s, especially if we stand 100% behind them.
