Livestock roaming around in Alberton’s roads

When members of the community come across cattle in the city, they may contact the City’s Service Centre on 0860 543 000.

How can the Alberton SPCA and Alberton SAPS allow all these cattle to feed on vacant land across President Steyn Laerskool in between houses?

Last week I drove down Bloutulp Avenue towards the school when I saw a little girl on the pavement crying. I stopped and she told me she must go to the shop on the other side of the field and she was too scared to pass them. I told her that I would take her to the shop and she jumped into my vehicle.

I told her she must never get into a vehicle with a stranger as it is very dangerous. She explained that she was more scared of the cattle. SAPS, security companies and metro police are just driving past as if this is normal.

Can I buy a cow and three sheep and keep them in that field during the day? I also need free milk and mutton.

CoE’s feedback

“Usually when members of the community come across such, they would phone our call-taking or service centre on 0860 543 000 and the SPCA would be notified because they specialise in handling livestock and other domestic animals. However, we normally assist them, if needs be,” explained Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini.
